Rambles with history in mind Over the last few years the History Group have organised an annual ramble usually starting from The Woodgate Valley Country Park Visitor Centre; we have produced booklets to accompany these rambles, as follows:

An Historic Ramble in Woodgate Valley Country Park. This takes you from the Visitor Centre across the ‘Valley’ down to Stonehouse Lane and back (approx 2 hour walk). This is a good leisurely walk through the Country Park which includes taking in some of the spoil heaps of the Lapal Tunnel, the moated sites, old coal pits, burnt mounds, brickworks and more…. A walk through Woodgate This ramble takes you for a walk round the old hamlets of Woodgate and Moor Street, packed with information it is a leisurely walk that takes about an hour. Also produced in 2002 - £1 |

Walking part of the manor of Northfield The walk follows part of the boundary walk undertaken by Squire Ledsam, Lord of the Manor of Northfield & Weoley in 1863. This starts down at Stonehouse bridge, takes you through the Country Park and over the motorway bridge to Lye Close Lane/farm following the boundary stones. There are some great pictures in this booklet, it is easy to follow, a good leisurely walk about 2 and a half hours long, that is without stopping for refreshments at the visitors Centre and looking at our latest display. A Walk along the line of the Lapal Tunnel We follow the line of the Lapal Tunnel from the Visitor Centre down to Stonehouse lane, this walk follows the spoil heaps along the line of the Lapal Tunnel. Half the walk is in the Country Park and the other half follows the spoil heaps through Woodgate Valley estate. The walk takes about an hour and a half one way, with directions on how to return to the visitors Centre, great map of the spoil heaps on the back. Produced in 2004 - £2 |

Along the line of the Lapal Tunnel to its Western Portal & Beyond This walk starts at the Visitor Centre and continues down to Lapal Lane South and finishes at The Black Horse, Manor Way. This is a great walk which ends up at a pub, what could be better! It is packed with historical information, it takes you from the Visitor Centre, over the motorway bridge in Carters Lane, across the fields, crossing over Lapal Lane South across a few stiles (not recommended for the less able), then past the old fish ponds and Halesowen Abbey and on to The Black Horse.
